The remediation and reclamation services MCS
performs include all forms of toxic and hazardous substance
removal. MCS provides hydrologic surface water and groundwater
modeling. Our extensive experience
in abandoned mine assessment includes watersheds covered
with tailings and waste rock; adit and tunnel discharge; hazardous
mine openings; complete floodplain and stream reclamation;
and unstable and fill tailing impoundments.
MCS has removed many underground storage tanks
for a variety of clients from individuals, industries,
and government agencies. Our remediation experience
ranges from radioactive waste removal to petroleum fuel
hydrocarbon cleanup.
Tailings from historical milling operations at the Frohner
Mill in Helena National Forest settled in or adjacent
to Frohner Basin Creek. Much of the tailings were transported
to the Frohner Meadows either while operations were
occurring or during flood events after the mill ceased
operations. Most of the tailings from the mill
settled in the upper meadows. A second tailings release
occurred in lower meadows during mining operations at
the Nellie Grant Mine during the 1980s. To complete
project requirements, MCS

characterized the nature and extent of tailings by collecting samples at various locations; |
● |
estimated the volume of tailings by completing hand- and backhoe-excavated test pits; |

compiled the data into a site investigation report; and |

produced and presented the engineering evaluation and cost analysis of a streamlined risk assessment and reclamation alternatives. |
