This project's focus was to remediate bat guano from 36 hotel rooms and attic areas throughout Many Glacier Hotel, a national historic landmark. Asbestos-containing sheetrock was abated from interior walls in order to access bat nesting areas. Contaminated areas were then cleaned and sealed to prevent bat reentry. Following remediation and abatement work, MCS crews installed new and historic wall finishes according to the Park historian’s requirements for the building. Additional asbestos work included removal of pipe insulation and contaminated crawlspace dirt. Other work included renovation of exterior staircases. The project presented special challenges due to the client’s requirement that the work be performed during the shoulder seasons when the hotel was closed (October thru December and April thru June).
