MCS removed asbestos-containing materials and lead-based paint
from the Red Cross Building (Building 636) at the fort.
The building was restored as part of the historic preservationt. MCS paid special attention to preserving the
essential features of the building while removing unsafe or
nonhistoric elements. By characterizing the soil surrounding
the building, MCS was able to save the US Army Corps of
Engineers and the City of Vancouver over $5,000 by avoiding
disposal of the soil as hazardous waste. MCS prepared the
exterior of the building to protect it against the weather,
supporting future restoration during the autumn and winter.
In fullfillment of project requirements, MCS
